Geraint is seeking a meeting with the tourism minister to drum up support for tourism in the city ahead of the Dylan Thomas centenary.
Geraint is asking for a meeting in response to a letter from John Penrose, Minister for Tourism and Heritage, which claimed that the Government had put in a series of measures to help the industry in Swansea and other parts of the country, such as abolishing red tape.
The MP wants assurances that the Government is giving enough support to the city and its surroundings especially in the run-up to the centenary celebrations of Dylan Thomas's birth in 2014.
Figures from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport show around 14 per cent of residents in Swansea West are employed in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
Geraint said: "I have requested a meeting with the minister to discuss the support that the Government is giving Swansea with regard to tourism and how Swansea can be promoted with particular focus on the centenary celebrations of Dylan Thomas in 2014.
"I received a letter outlining various measures that Government says it has put in place for tourism but these appear small scale to the bigger picture of how to make sure Swansea benefits from being the birthplace of Dylan Thomas - a legend whose work is loved across the world.
"I want assurances that Swansea will get the support it needs to make the celebrations a success and increase tourism in the city and surrounding area."
