Geraint has condemned the absence of any women on this year's BBC Sport Personality of the Year Shortlist.

He has tabled an Early Day Motion which is supported by a growing number of MPs including Llanelli's Nia Griffith and Louise Mensch, a member of the Culture Media and Sport Select committee.

He said: "I think it is a disgrace that there are no women in this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year Shortlist when there are so many talented women in sport.

"Rebecca Adlington, who won gold in the 800m at the World Swimming Championships in China earlier this year and Keri-Anne Payne, who won gold in the 10k open water event at the world Championships and was named as the first member of the 2012 team were both over looked.

"The BBC should ensure that women are shortlisted and should do more to promote women in sport.

"I was also angered to see that the editors of Nuts and Zoo were on the shortlist panel when no women's magazines were allowed to participate in the short listing process.

"This decision by the BBC just adds to institutionalised sexism and does nothing to promote sport among young girls.

"With the Olympics in London next year we should be proud of our female athletes and recognise their accomplishments."
