Geraint's Campaign against Lib Dem Council Cutting the Telephone Lifeline for Swansea's Vulnerable Elderly A Success
Labour Parliamentary Candidate Geraint Davies, successor to Alan Williams MP, campaign to stop the Liberal Democrat Council making 8000 vulnerable disabled people in Swansea pay £100 or lose their Lifeline emergency telephone service has been a success.
Said Geraint Davies “The free Lifeline service consists of an emergency button on a necklace that when pushed provides an instant alert and communication to carers who ring an ambulance or provide immediate support to the disabled person in distress.
“Swansea residents who need daily home care to be awakened, washed, dressed and fed rely on the Lifeline during the night and when alone in case of emergency.”
“The Lifeline has been provided free since 2003 but the Lib Dem Council is demanded vulnerable and disabled people either pay £100 for this emergency service or lose it.
“The Lib Dem Council has shown its financial incompetence by having to making cuts of £14million and 500 jobs.
“To pay for their irresponsible spending the Liberal Democrat Council has decided to inflict the most painful costs on the most vulnerable. Those who can’t pay would have been risking their lives because of this heartless policy.
“But the people of Swansea have joined my campaign to stand up against this cut. 8000 people would have been directly affected so we all know someone who would have suffered from this callous cut.
“The most vulnerable in our community should not have their lives put at risk to pay for the Liberal Democrat Council’s irresponsible spending, uncollected taxes and out of control budgets.
