Geraint Davies MP and Julie James AM are appealing to the residents of Swansea to help them in collecting much needed supplies for thousands of refugees fleeing war-torn parts of the Middle East, including Syria and Eritrea.
Geraint Davies MP said ‘Recent images of children washed up on beaches is heart breaking and we cannot stand by and do nothing for these desperate people. We are arranging this collection for Refugees in camps in Calais who need our help, and we are sure the people of Swansea will respond with their famous warmth to families who have left everything to seek safety. We must remember that these are human beings who have simply been born in a different part of the world to us. Many people in Swansea are very concerned about the ongoing crisis and we are acting to provide much needed practical help.
Julie James AM said ‘Conditions in the camps are worsening, supplies of essentials are running low and the camps are getting busier. The people of Swansea can do their bit to help the refugees live more securely and more comfortably while waiting for a wider European political response to help resolve the crisis.’
Long-lasting food, warm clothes, toiletries, blankets and shoes can be dropped off to C/o Geraint Davies MP & Julie James AM - 5th floor, Sun Alliance House, St Helens Road, Swansea or ring 01792 475943. All suitable donations are welcome.
