Labour win in Swansea West for Jobs & Schools
“Labour won a great victory in Swansea West on the night Labour lost it's parliamentary majority. The resilience of the Labour vote withstood massive pressure from a highly funded Lib Dem campaign and swelling Tory support” said newly elected Labour MP for Swansea West Geraint Davies.
Voters chose jobs & schools with Labour and voted for Geraint Davies as their next MP for Swansea West. The Labour vote established by Alan Williams as MP for 46 years fell by just 1498.
The highly funded Liberal Democrat campaign saw their vote increase by 2267 with a similar increase of 2122 to the Conservative vote from a much more modest campaign. This meant Labour’s majority fell by 3765 to 504.
“The Lib Dems are a spent force and the Tories are the emerging challenge in Swansea West” said Labour’s Geraint Davies.

“The Lib Dems broke the bank in their highly personalised and misleading campaign and still lost.
“They said I voted against the Iraq Inquiry when I was not an MP at the time.
“I am the only candidate of the 3 main parties to have local roots. My mother's family has been in Swansea West for 4 generations, I returned with my family 5 years ago and yet the Lib Dems still spent a fortune calling me a carpetbagger!
“They are literally a spent force in Swansea. They cannot be trusted and have nothing else to offer our City but more cuts in schools and jobs.”
“In contrast the Conservatives ran a clean fight and grew their vote as a result.
“In Swansea West the volcanic ash from Nick Clegg has settled and the sunshine from Labour’s campaign for jobs & schools has brought warmth and hope for our City’s future.”
