I'd like to thank all constituents who have sent me their comments regarding the airstrikes on Syria, I will be replying to everyone as soon as possible but I hope everyone will understand that with over 500 emails, over 200 letters and numerous phone calls, it is taking my staff and I longer than usual to reply to everyone.
What I will be saying though is in the days approaching the Syria debate I was unconvinced that the UK should intervene as 10 countries with varying agendas are already bombing in Syria. My view was that we should focus on the peace process where we have diplomatic capability and play our military part by protecting Iraq from Daesh. This is an issue of life and death of great complexity and either way things may get worse before they get better. Therefore it was right to listen to the 10 hours of debate before finally deciding to vote against military action in Syria.
