Support Swansea Market by lower parking costs for traders
Geraint Davies, Labour’s successor to Alan Williams MP in Swansea West has joined Swansea Market traders in a campaign to reverse a further escalation in the cost of parking which is undermining town centre retailing and piling the costs on individual traders in Swansea Market.
“I already pay £11 a day to park from 8.00am until 5.00pm– that’s £4.80 for 4 hours plus £1.60 an hour after –and £22 a day for 2 people is a lot to take off our takings. I support Geraint Davies’ campaign to keep down charges and give concessions to Swansea Market trades-people” Said Carol Watts Proprietor of Gower Cockles & Shellfish.
Now the Council is proposing to put up charges a further 10%. “Swansea Market has been an iconic feature of Swansea life for 800 years but now faces a threat from rocketing parking charges hitting shoppers and trades-people alike” said Geraint Davies Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Swansea West.
“Grand schemes for the city centre are all very well but the Council should support existing traders now when the going gets tough and business needs a helping hand” said Geraint Davies
“The Council parking charges are crippling for traders and pushing customers away. I back Geraint’s campaign to support Swansea Market” said Paul Gent of Tuckers Fishmongers
