"The cold wind of cuts and job losses from the new Tory/Lib Dem Government will billow the sails of the Facist Pirate Ship but it will get no safe haven in Swansea" said Labour MP Swansea West adddressing the crowd at Castle Square on 5 June

A packed crowd gathered to oppose the arrival of the facist group the Welsh Defence League at Castle Square Swansea on Saturday.

In a keynote speech Geraint Davies MP said

"I stand before you as the newly elected Labour MP for Swansea West to say there is no place for the Welsh Defence League in Swansea. Do not soil our city with your divisive prejudice. Turn and go.

"The last time the facists targetted Swansea was when the Luftwaffe was blitzing our city.

"Like the Nazis the WDL speak the language of victimhood and preach the religion of hatred to divide our communities.

"In Germany the Nazi foothold became a stronghold in mainstream politics that cost the lives of tens of millions before it was brought to heel. We must now defeat the violent racists from outside who try to sow the seeds of hatred in Swansea.

"Swansea is a community of communities which united will always defeat the BNP facists and their bedfellows.

"The cold wind of cuts and job losses from the new Tory/Lib Dem Government will billow the sails of the Facist Pirate Ship but it will get no safe haven in Swansea.

"We are strong, we are united and our common values of equality, opportunity and solidarity means that Swansea will always be an outward-looking happy home for a diverse family of people.

"So today as yesterday and tomorrow we will send the facists packing.

"We will fight for our values, fight for our peoples and we will always win for all our tomorrows."
