Waunarlywdd School Council raises Gowerton 6th Form & graffiti with Geraint

The future of Gowerton 6th Form and graffiti were top of the agenda for pupils of Waunarlywdd School Council when they met up this week with Geraint Davies, Labour’s parliamentary candidate in Swansea West.
“The pupils were keen to give me a tour of their school, including the Green Dome (see Post Photo) where much of our discussion took place, which they had also helped to build.

“Support for continuing the 6th Form at Gowerton School was the first issue raised.
“They felt it was also unfair that brothers and sisters already at Gowerton who wanted to attend the 6th form would be let down if closure plans went ahead and asked what I could do to prevent it. I said I will be encouraging parents and pupils to put their views forward so that the Council were in no doubt about their feelings.”

“One girl said that there wouldn’t be enough room in one school as more and more children want to study after the age of 16. Another pupil said closing Gowerton 6th Form would cause more car fumes through having to travel further to Olchfa School which would harm our environment.

The next issue of concern was Graffiti along the cycle path from Brithwen and fly tipping and dumping in the river.
“Graffiti makes you feel you are in a bad place” said one girl.
Geraint Davies offered to take up individual cases with the Council.

“I was very impressed by the high level of discussion of important local issues by members of the School Council. Children have been given a voice in Waunarlwydd School to make it a happier more effective School and it’s important that children across Swansea are listened to to help to shape a better future for our City” said Geraint.
