School children talking to Geraint about plastic pollution

Geraint Davies, the Swansea West Labour and Cooperative MP, today met with school children who expressed their concerns and ideas about the impact of plastic in the environment.

Geraint Davies, who is preparing a plastics bill to reduce plastic waste, said:

“The children were passionate about protecting our planet and their future. They said that there is too much plastic in the sea and on our beaches. One child told me that we should introduce a plastics tax. Another said that they were forced to buy products in plastic packaging as they are cheaper.

“My Plastics Bill will address these concerns by making sure that the UK meets EU targets for plastic tax, by placing a plastic tax on the manufacturers of plastic, and by placing a levy on disposable plastic cups.

“I was moved by these children today and will be campaigning to raise awareness in schools across South Wales about the damage plastic causes and why we need to take action now.”

Geraint Davies is the Vice-Chairman of the Surfers against Sewage All Party Parliamentary Group which campaigns to reduce the amount of plastic in the sea.
