The Conservative  Government is scrapping free TV licences for pensioners over 75 despite promising in their last manifesto to keep all pensioner benefits.

Geraint Davies, Labour MP for Swansea West, said: “This latest cut affects 5670 households in Swansea West.

“Our oldest pensioners will lose their free TV licences to help pay for the cost of Brexit. That’s on top of axing our rail electrification and stopping the Swansea Tidal Lagoon

“It is an extra cost that Swansea pensioners cannot afford and will leave many more isolated and lonely than before. Television is a lifeline for those who are housebound or live on their own.’

“If this unnecessary policy goes ahead it will create anxiety, depression and a higher bill for poorer mental health as it hits every pensioner in Wales.”
