Geraint Davies MP has called for local residents in Swansea West to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of UK Armed Forces this Remembrance Sunday.

The Member of Parliament for Swansea West, Geraint Davies MP, said:

“Remembering today those from Swansea, Wales, UK and beyond who gave their lives and those who lost their loved ones for all our freedoms. My own father David, from Aberystwyth, served on HMS Victorious chasing the Bismarck during the war and my mother Betty remembered the blitz over Swansea so this day also makes me think of them and the ones they knew who died.”

This week, communities across the country will come together to pay tribute to those who fought and died in the First World War and all conflicts since.

Today, the UK’s servicemen and servicewomen continue to play a central role to protect British interests and values, from training Ukrainian troops to supporting NATO allies in Estonia.

Geraint said “Let’s pledge, as we gather in silent respect, to cherish and protect the freedom and democracy we have for the sacrifices so many made for all our futures. Let’s also think of those fighting for their lives to defend our shared values in Ukraine.”

Following the launch of its national poppy appeal, the Royal British Legion (RBL) are back in local communities across the country to raise vital funds to support our armed forces communities.

Labour is backing the charity’s efforts to encourage schools across the country to support the teaching of remembrance, to ensure its importance is passed on to the next generation.

Along with many veterans, representatives and members of the public, Geraint attended today’s service and two minutes silence at the Cenotaph on Mumbles Road. People across Swansea, Wales and the UK will be coming together to mark this day in their own way and give thanks to our armed forces and remember who we have lost.

We will remember them.
