This week in Parliament, Geraint Davies MP, raised the issue of the HS2 project being classed as an England and Wales project, despite Wales not seeing any additional funding or any of the track.

HS2, which stands for High Speed 2, is a fast train line which aims to connect the North of England with London and eventually to speed up the service to Scotland.

Geraint Davies MP said,

“HS2 will reduce travel times from London to Manchester from two hours 10 minutes to one hour 10 minutes and by even more to Scotland, yet the travel time by train to Swansea, which I represent, will remain at about three hours.”

When questioning the Minister, Geraint asked whether he would look at the consequential funding again and to meet with Geraint to discuss it.

In the House of Commons, Geraint raised that Wales should have it’s fair share of HS2 funding to deliver net zero, improve productivity and deliver levelling up.

Geraint Davies MP said,

“How is it that Scotland will get an additional £8 billion in Barnett consequential but Wales will not get the £5 billion that it should get, given that in the past 12 years we have seen only 1.5% of the rail enhancements go to Wales?”
