Dr Sabre, a Swansea doctor who was stuck in war-torn Gaza, has unveiled a mural with a message of peace on the office shutters of Geraint Davies MP.

Swansea West MP Geraint Davies has seen the shutters of his constituency office on Walter Road emblazoned with a dove of peace created by artist Adam Rhys Davies.

Dr Ahmed Sabra recently returned from Gaza after being trapped there for over a month as the conflict unfolded.

Dr Sabra, who was a former cardiology registrar at Morriston Hospital, unveiled the art at the office in Walter Road, alongside Mr Davies. He now works as a consultant cardiologist at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

The design on Mr Davies’ office shutters features a dove of peace carrying a heart and an olive branch, flying over a rainbow above a Swansea landscape and a Welsh dragon.

Beneath it says ‘peace’ and above a little girl are the words ‘freedom’ and  ‘Dr Sabra back in UK thanks’, along with a Palestinian and an Israeli boy with arms around each other.

Dr Sabra said: “The design at Geraint Davies MP’s office is a daily reminder of the urgent need for peace, freedom and justice for all.

“I’m grateful to Geraint for his support when I was in Gaza and in getting me home and this graphic reminder in Swansea of the need to secure peace.”

Mr Davies said: “I’m grateful to Dr Sabra for blessing this dove of peace design, painted by artist Adam Rhys Davies.

“After weeks of WhatsApp messages with Dr Sabra, when he was in Gaza, and lobbying ministers, it’s such a relief to get him back.

“Even though they are UK citizens Dr Sabra and his family had been left for a month without support, caught up in the war.

After his family was put on the transfer list to Egypt, Dr Sabra was sent back to Gaza, as his name was not on an Israeli-approved transfer list.

Mr Davies added: “US citizens who got into Egypt from Gaza, but were not on the transfer list. They got back to the US thanks to the American Embassy but British citizens were sent back despite being with British Embassy officials.

“It was thanks to our campaign and the public outcry that we got UK ministers to demand UK citizens were at last set free and this mural is also a celebration of that. It’s had lots of positive feedback already.”
