Member of Parliament for Swansea West is confident that after meeting First Cymru bosses that his bus services to Townhill and Mayhill campaign alongside residents will improve local services again which were hit in October by service cuts.

Geraint Davies MP this week met with the Managing Director of First Cymru, Doug Claringbold and Network Manager, Sam Palmer over how bus services could be reinstated following recent cuts.

The meeting with First Cymru chiefs follows Geraint’s packed public meeting in Townhill, where over 100 local residents met to demand a reversal of the recent cuts to bus services and for affordable fairs.

The buses serving Townhill and Mayhill have been significantly reduced, with the Townhill circular (numbers 12 and 13) being cut by a third and the Mayhill circular (number 11) being removed altogether with the route incorporated into the Townhill circular.

This has reduced the frequency of the services connecting Townhill to the Quadrant bus station from every 15 minutes to only every half an hour and often longer.

Additionally, the operating hours of these services, as well as the number 16 which serves the Gors Avenue area of the hill, have been reduced, starting later in the morning and finishing earlier in the evening.

Speaking after the meeting with First Cymru , Geraint Davies MP stated “Townhill and Mayhill deserves reliable, affordable bus services in particular as our community lives on the Hill with few shops and the cost of living crisis creating real hardship.

“Having had a positive meeting with Doug and Sam from First Cymru this week over the concerns from local residents on bus service cuts, affordable fares and the need for environmentally-friendly buses, I am confident that the bus services for Townhill and Mayhill will be reversed in the near future.

“Together we will work to create a better service and I will soon be convening another public meeting with First Cymru representatives to ensure the public’s concerns are heard by bus providers and we can move forward together .”
